Good Morning
I’m sending this message to tell you about Adalyn Brungardt, daughter of Tyler Brungardt. Tyler has been a member of the Hays Fire Dept as while as Local 2119 for 18 years, servicing as our Secretary/ Treasurer for the last 10. Here is Adalyn’s story.
Adalyn was born September 4, 2025 weighing 2 lbs and 7 ounces. Adalyn was diagnosed with intrauterine growth restriction early in the pregnancy. At about 6 weeks, an ultrasound revealed an increased NT measurement and a cystic hygroma diagnosis. A follow up appointment a couple weeks later revealed that the hygroma had dissolved, yet Adalyn remained small.
Adalyn was referred to maternal fetal medicine in Wichita, KS, resulting in numerous trips for check ups during pregnancy. Adalyn spent 64 days in the hospital after birth, 12 days in the NICU and 52 days in special care. She needed special care, especially maintaining body temperature, while in the hospital.
Adalyn was discharged with a NG tube for feedings because she struggled to learn to bottle while in the hospital. She’s had weekly visits with a pediatrician to monitor weight gain, and she’s had numerous ER trips to replace her NG tube. At four months old, she’s now 7 lbs 6 ounces.
Adalyn still faces the high possibility of a G-tube surgery. This surgery will place a feeding tube directly into her stomach so that she will no longer need a NG tube. This will likely take place in the spring.
Adalyn will continue to receive care, testing, and therapies through Hays Med in Hays, KS and Wesley Medical in Wichita, KS.
A GoFundMe has been started for the Brungardt family. Donations can be made at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-adalyns-journey-to-health or through the QRcode.
